Need guidance!
Every previous boat I have purchased has been a new boat through a dealer that handled the sales tax and registration. I am purchasing a boat from another State that is not charging sales tax, they are giving me the documents to bring back to NC to pay the $1500 sales tax here and register the boat and trailer. Can anyone tell me if all of this can be handled at the NCDMV license plate agency or are there other steps to take to do this?
Thanks for any input!

It has been awhile, but I believe it can be taken care of at the NCDMV. I know it is not the same exact situation, but I had a friend buy a camper van in state from a private party and the DMV required the taxes be paid at the time of registration.

Be sure to get an itemized and notarized bill of sale, meaning break out the boat, motor, and trailer. Will come in handy if you r&r the motor to verse visa. NC taxes will be due at registration, I believe the boat must be registered by a NCWRC agent. Don’t forget about 5 year trailer tags …[/u]

Thanks for the replies.
For anyone else that may be purchasing a boat out of State
The boat registration can be done at some NCDMV license plate agencies. NC Wildlife website has a listing for businesses that can do vessel registration by County.
The State tax have to be paid by completing a NC Dept of Revenue form E-555, mail it with a check to NC Dept of Revenue
